Fix Desk-Tight Hips
A 30-second stretch for people who sit all day
Why sitting tightens your hips
- Long periods of sitting can leave your hips feeling stiff
- Hip stiffness and back discomfort can show up after long periods of sitting
- This isn't permanent, it responds well to regular stretching
The half-kneeling stretch
- Kneel on one knee, like you're about to propose
- Squeeze the glute on the kneeling-leg side
- Shift your hips gently forward, keep your torso upright
- Hold 5-10 seconds, then switch sides
- You should feel a stretch through the front of the hip, not pain
Make it a habit
- Do both sides at least 2-3 times during your workday
- Pair it with a short walk between meetings
- Add a chest and upper-back stretch too if you round forward at a desk
- Stop if you feel sharp or joint pain, not just a stretch
Good to know
- Set a recurring reminder. Consistency beats one long stretch session a week.
