Your Abs Are Hiding
Crunches don't burn belly fat. Here's what does
Why crunches alone don't work
- Spot reduction (burning fat from one area) is not how fat loss works
- A 6-week study of ab-only training barely changed belly fat
- Your abs may already be strong, just covered by body fat
- More crunches does not equal visible abs
What actually works
- A small, sustainable calorie deficit
- Enough protein every day, to help keep muscle while losing fat
- Training abs like any other muscle: added resistance over time
- Consistency over months, not days
A simple ab progression
- Plank and side plank for core stability
- Weighted or cable crunches once bodyweight reps get easy
- Hanging knee or leg raises for lower abs
- 2-3 short core sessions a week is plenty
Good to know
- Visible abs are mostly about body fat percentage. Training makes them firmer and more defined once fat comes down.
