SLED

Survive The Sled Push

3 cues to stop the sled push from wrecking your legs

The station

  • 50m (4 x 12.5m lengths), part of the official HYROX format
  • Sled plus weight: 102kg women's, 152kg men's / women's pro, up to 202kg men's pro
  • Comes early in the race, right after your first run and the SkiErg

3 technique cues

  • Get low: hips down, shoulders ahead of your hips, arms locked and firm
  • Short, fast, choppy steps, like pushing a stalled car
  • Keep it moving once it's moving, momentum is on your side
  • Drive through the balls of your feet, not your toes

Why restarting is the hard part

  • Getting a stopped sled moving takes more force than keeping a moving one going
  • A full stop costs more energy than just slowing down
  • If you have to slow down, try not to fully stop
  • Practice dead-stop starts in training so race day isn't your first time

Good to know

  • Practice both a heavy, slow push and a light, fast push. Race day weight can surprise you.
