The No-Restart Plan
A weekly structure so one bad day never turns into starting over
Pick 3 non-negotiables
- Walk daily. Floor: 5 minutes. Baseline: 20 minutes. Ceiling: 40 minutes
- Protein at every meal (US Guidelines). Floor: an egg or yogurt. Ceiling: a palm each meal
- Strength twice a week. Floor: 10 minutes at home. Ceiling: a full 40-minute session
- Write all three on paper and tick the floor or the ceiling each day. Both count
The never-miss-twice rule
- Off-plan meal or missed day? Reset at your very next meal or session, not on Monday
- In habit research, missing one day didn't derail habit formation (Lally 2010)
- Missed yesterday? Do the floor version today. That's how you never miss twice
- Your script: 'One meal is not the plan. Next meal, back on track.'
Build a plate that works
- Half your plate vegetables, a palm of protein, a fist of carbs (NHS hand guide)
- Three swaps: soda to sparkling water, chips to popcorn, ice cream to yogurt and fruit
- Weekend plan: pick 2 meals to enjoy without guilt, keep the rest on the plate method
- Hunger check: pause halfway through, stop when comfortably full, not stuffed
Weekly check-in
- Once a week, look at trends, not single days: energy, how clothes fit, strength numbers
- A gradual pace of about 1-2 lb (0.5-1 kg) a week is linked to keeping weight off (CDC)
- Change one thing at a time and give it 2 weeks before you judge it
Good to know
- General guidance only. Talk to a doctor or dietitian before big changes, and skip calorie-focused plans if you have a history of disordered eating.
